Craig, are you looking for specific recording recs or a general overview?

Don't forget The Flying Burrito Bros did "Wild Horses" first, at least on record. Didn't Keef give the song to his buddy Gram Parsons?

Agree totally with the above post, and would just like to add that we have several threads ongoing which demand & deserve serious intellectual consideration (and which make me feel a bit embarrassed at my lack of education), and several others w…

Our snow storm turned to freezing rain & then rain by mid-morning Thursday; by mid afternoon the roads were still slick but not icy. I had the day off anyway; my wife called out. Today was sunny and 45; tomorrow, however, we could have another s…

Bad Thoughts, thank you again for your suggestions and your links! I enjoed the Poeme (can I do an accent on this keyboard? Probably not) Harmonique video; about 2/3rds through the Glass sampler and love everything but the synthesized remix track. A…

Thank you! just downloaded.
I feel slightly guilty. I should have added in my original post that I've been listening to classical music for 25 years, bought & downloaded (which is how I originally discovered eMu in 2005) CDs, read gu… -
Bless you for looking after needy moggies. Our three urchins are always needy, so I spend a good deal of any day off just cleaning up after them.
Please make & release that toilet-training DVD pronto. You have my $20... -
Snow this morning. Perfect for a day off. @ least till it changes to rain this afternoon...

A point and a question: your recording industry has been making this claim for a generation: I remember replacing my worn-out copy of The Clash in the early 80s and seeing a skull&crossbones placed over a cassette silhouette with the words HOME …

And I was born & raised in MA (Cape Cod--yes, I have 1 or 2 Kennedy stories) and went to CA for a few years (to get away from those godawful winters). Small world, ain't it?

Much thanks to everyone for their suggestions (BigD-Bluez, I too learned the value of sobriety after a misspent youth, but I appreciate the idea). Music Lover, you quoted me perfectly, and I thank you for taking the time to put together such a compr…

Of course it is! If you're originally from "up North" (which, to locals, is anywhere outside of the old Confederacy, regardless of the actual geography), this is just a little treat to remind you...just how glad you are that you don't have to live w…

No snow today (coming tomorrow night, at least for a few hours) but cold and windy here in Carolina. Understand our European friends are having an early winter as well. Hope everyone stays warm!

I signed up for it, but, like thom, I wish I felt the same passion for even one piece of "classical" music as I do for, say, the New York Dolls. Also, with nothing but my little notepad computer and PX-100 Sennheiser headphones for playback these da…

Mommio, I looked at the website a few nights ago. I've always wondered why Bissie pays so much attention to mp3 subscribers (other than that he is a very gracious individual), given that his record company has always set such a high standard for sou…

Freshman year of college, living in a dorm. Don't remember how I heard about it, probably from someone in our hall. Same reaction as everyone else: shock and utter, utter sadness.

And I can vouch for the LKJ set.

Actually, I like Durham; I just don't know much about it. I used to go to Ninth Street a fair amount in the early 90s (the Regulator is still a great bookstore, I understand), and I have been to a couple of Bulls games, but that's about it.
Such is my faith in the eternal verities of human nature that I am sure that someone, somewhere, will figure out how to create a demand for such digital legacies and cash in accordingly. The poem was beautiful, thank you, and yes, the NC mountains deserve such tribute. And Asheville is well worth a visit. Spend three days; you'll be glad you did.
I'll let you come to your own conclusions about Durham...
Allow…Mommio, the North Carolina mountains are beautiful. The coast is nice as well, although the last 20 years have seen way too much development in some spots. In between...lots of suburban sprawl. And I'm both surprised and grateful that I had the presence of mind to do that much...
Snow seems to b…Well I'll be: it's snowing here in Carolina as well. The best kind of snow: sticking to the trees & the ground, but not the roads.

I always forget how good XTC was (sorry, off-topic)...your comment makes me wonder if the final irony of this thread might turn out to be how many of us give up mp3 downloading altogether and go back to buying the…Ouch! I've been lucky in that regard: my worst storm experience was back in '96, after Hurricane Fran ripped through this area: the area where I lived didn't get power back for nine days. But at least that was in the heat of early September; even be…We do get 12"+ snows in Central NC--maybe one every decade or so. Of course, within a week of such snowfall, the temps are usually back up in the 50s if not warmer. Otherwise, most areas would never get cleared--even in the larger cities, only the m…
